Tennessee Valley

In June 2007, the Tennessee Valley WIRED region formalized its partnership with Junior Achievement, a non-profit organization which seeks to educate youth about entrepreneurship, work readiness, and financial literacy through experiential, hands-on programs.

Building on pre-existing Junior Achievement, the partnership provides students a wealth of learning opportunities, including job shadowing.  Business leaders serve as role models by sharing their knowledge and experience to make the “real world” come alive for students.  The partnership provides better career awareness and career exploration opportunities to youth in the North Alabama and South Central Tennessee region, and serves as a model for other WIRED regions.

The partnership strengthens the pre-existing Junior Achievement programs.  Through its dedicated network of volunteers, the program will provide in-school and after-school activities, that will build youth’s self-confidence and develop their skills.  The initiative will provide a strong bridge between education and business, giving students the opportunity to plan their futures along with giving them the tools to carry out their dreams.
