Creative Enterprises and the Arts includes individuals and
organizations with creative arts skills that work in collaboration with
managers and technology to create marketable products and services whose economic
value lies primarily in their cultural or intellectual properties.
The primary creative industries for focused are:
- Advertising and Marketing
- Architecture
- Crafts
- Design Services; industrial, graphic, furniture and fabric
- Digital technology, software, web, interactive
- Film, animation, video and other audiovisual production
- Performing arts: music, theatre, dance both live and recorded
- Visual artists: fine and commercial artists and galleries, photographers, illustrators
- Writing and publishing
Currently over 11,000 people work in the creative
industries of the 12 county Piedmont Triad region. This does not include self employed,
administrative and support positions.
Creative Cluster Initiatives
- Talent Development- Leverage higher education to prepare students and professionals to work in the Triad's creative industries. Working to launch or strengthen the following:
- Degree programs, certifications
- Apprenticeships, internships
- Develop a comprehensive regional strategy and action plan in collaboration with the Alliance for Creative Advantage. Three national experts in the creative economies will consult on this project to leverage the creative assets in urban and rural settings:
- Regional Technology Strategies, Chapel Hill, NC
- Mt. Auburn Associates, Boston, Massachusetts
- Handmade in America, Asheville, NC
- Create a collaborative work space to include a database and website for the creative cluster to showcase the breath of companies that operate in the region.
- Develop Career Lattices for specific sectors within the creative cluster
- Plan events to connect creative businesses and artists in the Triad and develop synergy.
